According to a July 2007 consumer survey conducted by JupiterResearch/Ipsos Insight Financial Services almost a quarter of all online shoppers prefer PayPal for making online payments. PayPal has a reputation for security, and claims to protect the interests of both merchants and consumers whilst offering convenience as part of the service. PayPal claim that consumers will have to spend less time entering their information and will be able to pay using credit or debit cards, using their bank accounts once they have been set up through PayPal, or using money that they have received in their own or their businesses’ PayPal Account.
Opening a PayPal account is free, and at the time of writing there are no charges whatsoever to the consumer for using the service. PayPal do charge the seller, though, which is how they can stay in business.
A key feature offered by PayPal is security. When you sign up for a PayPal account, you register the bank accounts and credit cards you wish to use for purchases just once using the PayPal secure system. Once that is done, you never again have to disclose your credit card information online. By paying with PayPal, you keep your credit card information private, meaning that you can shop without worrying about a hacker obtaining your card details following an attack on any online merchant.
Given all the advantages of PayPal you may wonder why this is only being trialled by Leads Direct at this time, rather than being rolled out permanently. There are two main reasons:
We will be reviewing the success or otherwise of this new payment method, before taking a decision on whether to make it a permanent feature of the Leads Direct website.
If you have an opinion on our offering PayPal as a payment option, please let us know what you think using our feedback form – all input is gratefully received.
